Canada officials embrace Digital Economy with completion of Canada SEA Report

The Canada Shipment and Trade Efficiency Assessment (SEA) report was completed by officials from several Canadian organizations during a final review session held at the Global Affairs Canada office in Ottawa on March 8, 2018.

Executives represented Global Affairs Canada, Canada Border Services Agency, CN Rail, Canada Freight Management Association, Canada Border Services Agency, Canadian Transportation Research Forum, UPS, Canadian Pacific Railway, Rideau Potomac Strategy Group, Canadian Association of Exporters and Importers, Global Affairs Institute, International Chamber of Commerce and Canadian Society of Customs Brokers. Mr. Don Johnston, former OECD Secretary General from 1996-2006 and GCEL Americas Advisory Board member opened the session commenting that the Canada SEA report represents an important step to diagnose the current state of Canada’s trade efficiency and how new digital tools can reduce Canada’s trade costs and boost its global trade. The Canada SEA report findings revealed that by digitizing its global value chains, Canada can reduce its excess domestic and international trade costs by USD 46.5 billion, increase trade by USD 104 billion and create nearly 1 million new jobs.
