GCEL’S DIGITAL ECONOMY PLATFORM SUPPORTS MALAYSIA’S SHARED PROSPERITY VISION 2030
February 07, 2020
Malaysia’s Prime Minister, Dr. Tun Mahathir Mohamad, convened a briefing with the Malaysian Technology Development Corporation (MTDC) and GCEL to discuss how the Digital Economy Platform (DEP) can support the nation’s Shared Prosperity Vision 2030 objectives.
MTDC, a subsidiary of Malaysia’s sovereign wealth fund Khazanah Nasional, joined GCEL representatives to review opportunities for accelerating economic growth through digital transformation and trade modernization.
GCEL presented the Malaysia Digitization Program, which aligns with several of the country’s key economic growth priorities through the deployment of digital solutions spanning e-commerce, e-finance, e-insurance, and e-logistics.
The discussion highlighted GCEL’s global Digital Economy initiative, supported by international organizations, governments, and leading technology companies. Findings from the Malaysia Shipment Efficiency Assessment and the broader G20 Nations Case Study demonstrated strong demand for integrated digital tools to improve trade efficiency and competitiveness.
GCEL also introduced the Asia Benchmark Trade Lane Program, which is projected to reduce Malaysia’s trade costs by USD 55 billion, increase trade by USD 122 billion, and support the creation of nearly 9.5 million jobs by 2030.
The session concluded with discussions on the role of digital technologies and data-driven decision-making in supporting faster economic growth, greater trade connectivity, and long-term national prosperity.
