October 06, 2015

At the first B20 Digital Economy Conference in Istanbul, titled The Third Wave: Digital Economy and the Industrial Internet, GCEL led the keynote panel before more than 300 technology industry executives. The conference focused on the future of the Digital Economy and opportunities to participate in a projected USD 400 billion global market.

GCEL Co-Chairman Captain Samuel Salloum chaired a distinguished panel featuring experts from Wipro Technologies, eBay, Intel, PayPal, Vestel, and Boeing. Panelists emphasized the importance of understanding the needs of businesses and trade participants at the ground level when designing Digital Economy solutions.

The session also presented findings from GCEL’s G20 Nations Case Study and the Turkey Shipment and Trade Efficiency Assessment, the first assessment of its kind in Europe, conducted in cooperation with TUSIAD, three Turkish ministries, and the Nielsen Company.

At the time, approximately 40% of surveyed G20 participants had identified the digital tools needed to improve competitiveness and trade performance. The study projected that digitizing global trade could reduce annual trade costs by USD 3.7 trillion, increase trade by USD 7.7 trillion, and create nearly 300 million new jobs worldwide.
