NATIONAL INSTITUTION FOR TRANSFORMING INDIA EMBRACES THE DIGITAL ECONOMY TO ACHIEVE NATIONAL OBJECTIVES

September 16, 2016

On September 26, 2017, the National Institution for Transforming India (NITI Aayog) hosted strategic discussions with GCEL in New Delhi regarding the potential establishment of the E-Hub of the World in India.

The proposed E-Hub would serve as a global technology center of excellence responsible for the commercialization, deployment, maintenance, and advancement of the Digital Economy Platform. The initiative envisions collaboration between public institutions, academia, expert technology organizations, and the world’s leading technology firms.

As the Government of India’s premier policy think tank, NITI Aayog recognized the strong alignment between the Digital Economy initiative and national programs such as Make in India, Skill India, and Digital India.

India was the first G20 nation to conduct a Shipment Efficiency Assessment (SEA), a comprehensive evaluation of trade efficiency based on the opportunities enabled by modern digital technologies. The assessment was conducted with participation from the Ministry of Shipping, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), and the Indian Institute of Management Udaipur (IIMU).

The study provided recommendations for implementing digital tools to reduce trade costs, improve access to finance, and expand international trade. Following the discussions, NITI Aayog agreed to lead engagement with India’s Union Ministries to advance the establishment of the E-Hub initiative.
