GCEL RE-APPOINTED TO 2016 CHINA B20 TASK FORCES, REINFORCING THE IMPORTANCE OF THE DIGITAL ECONOMY
January 26, 2016
On January 26, 2016, GCEL was re-appointed to five China B20 Task Forces following its contributions during the 2015 Turkey B20 process, where the Digital Economy emerged as a major policy priority within the G20 agenda.
GCEL’s work during the 2015 Turkey B20 Task Force sessions helped demonstrate how Digital Economy initiatives could support 17 of the 25 recommendations presented to G20 Leaders, contributing to the inclusion of the Digital Economy in the 2015 G20 Leaders’ Communiqué.
At the B20 China Kick-Off Session in Beijing, leaders continued to advance this agenda by recognizing digital innovation as a critical enabler of global trade and economic development. As a result, the Digital Economy became a key focus across the Trade, Employment, Infrastructure, and SME Development Task Forces.
During plenary and panel discussions, public- and private-sector leaders emphasized the importance of Digital Economy implementation in supporting global growth, competitiveness, and economic rebalancing. China B20 Sherpa H.E. Yu Ping also highlighted the implementation of Digital Economy recommendations as an important policy priority for the international community.
