GCEL and BVMW Conduct Strategic Session to Launch the Digital Economy Platform in Europe

GCEL AND BVMW CONDUCT STRATEGIC SESSION TO LAUNCH THE DIGITAL ECONOMY PLATFORM IN EUROPE

March 15, 2018

On March 15, 2018, GCEL and BVMW, Germany’s largest SME association, held a strategic session in Berlin to advance deployment of the Digital Economy Platform (DEP) through the European Benchmark Trade Lane.

Germany has consistently ranked among the world’s leading economies in trade efficiency. Building on this strength, GCEL’s G20 Nations Case Study identified new opportunities to further improve performance through advanced digital tools and integrated trade systems.

The Germany Shipment Efficiency Assessment, conducted in cooperation with Germany’s Ministry of Economy, BVMW, and GCEL, found that 90.4% of trade participants lack an integrated system, while 94.5% support the Digital Economy Platform to enhance competitiveness and increase trade.

By providing SMEs with advanced digital tools at no cost through a unique business model, the DEP can help Germany further strengthen its leadership in trade efficiency and digital commerce.

The European Benchmark Trade Lane is one of four regional deployments of the Digital Economy Platform being implemented in collaboration with public- and private-sector organizations and the world’s leading technology firms.
