2015 TURKEY B20 CONFERENCE HIGHLIGHTS THE POWER OF THE DIGITAL ECONOMY
September 03, 2015
On September 3, 2015, business leaders gathered in Ankara for the 2015 Turkey B20 Conference to discuss strategies for strengthening the global economy. GCEL Co-Chairman Captain Samuel Salloum joined executives from Accenture, the World Economic Forum, Alibaba Group, Vodafone, Vestel, and the OECD on a panel focused on how technology can reshape the global economy.
During the session, Captain Salloum introduced the three pillars of GCEL’s “Implementable Policy Formula” for achieving sustainable economic growth.
The first pillar is identifying a common policy foundation capable of delivering positive economic outcomes. GCEL highlighted that the Digital Economy influences 17 of the 25 key B20 policy recommendations.
The second pillar is validation by real economy participants. Findings from GCEL’s G20 Nations Case Study showed that approximately 90% of respondents support the adoption of new digital tools to improve competitiveness and efficiency.
The third pillar is industry commitment to implementation. At the time, 26 leading global technology firms had signed strategic agreements supporting the delivery of Digital Economy solutions aligned with policy objectives and business needs.
The conference reinforced the growing recognition of an Empowered Digital Economy as a practical approach to digitizing trade, improving efficiency, and supporting long-term global economic growth.
